Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 27, 2026

Parly (“Parly”, “we”, “us”) is operated by Teodor Costache, a sole proprietor based in Boston, Massachusetts, USA. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use Parly (the “Service”) at goparly.com, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Parly, you agree to this Policy. If you don’t agree, please don’t use the Service.

Parly is built around a simple principle: you are discovered by your skills, not your identity. We collect as little as we need. Matching runs on Parly’s own servers from the roles and specializations you provide. We do not send your profile or opportunities to a third-party language-model provider, and Parly has no in-app chat.

1. Who can use Parly

Parly is intended for people aged 16 and older. If you are under 18, you may only use Parly with the permission of a parent or guardian. Parly is available to people in the United States and is not directed to individuals in the European Union or other regions outside the United States.

2. Information we collect

a) Account information (via Google sign-in)

Parly uses Google to sign you in. When you sign in, Google shares your name, email address, profile picture, and Google account identifier with us. We do not receive your Google password.

b) Profile information you provide

The roles and specializations you add to describe what you do, whether you are open to remote opportunities, how far you will travel for in-person work, and your US ZIP code. We store the ZIP internally — with city, state, and coordinates derived from a local US ZIP table — so we can tell whether an in-person post sits inside your travel radius. Other members never see your ZIP or coordinates. Opportunity cards show the post’s city (for example, Cambridge, MA) or “Remote.”

c) Academic verification (optional)

If you choose to verify an academic affiliation, we collect your institutional (.edu) email address. We look up the institution from that email’s domain against our US higher-education list, then email a one-time code to confirm it. You may also request verification by messaging Parly on LinkedIn with your Member ID.

d) Opportunities you post

The title, description, contact details you choose to share with interested members (“next steps”), the roles and specializations you are seeking, a respond-by date, whether the post is remote or tied to a ZIP, and any optional institution filter (up to three schools).

e) Limited technical information

To operate and secure the Service, our hosting provider may process limited technical data such as your IP address and basic request logs. We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.

What we do not collect: we do not collect payment information (Parly is free during the beta). We do not operate an in-app chat or store chat messages.

3. How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • create and operate your account;
  • match you to relevant collaboration opportunities, and let you post opportunities;
  • apply your current location, travel radius, remote opt-in, roles, and affiliation when showing For You, Discovery, and email digests;
  • verify an academic affiliation if you choose to;
  • send you essential service emails (verification codes, opportunity-match notifications, and digests you’ve chosen);
  • send you occasional product updates or promotional emails, which you can opt out of at any time (essential service emails are required to use Parly);
  • maintain the security, integrity, and proper functioning of the Service;
  • comply with legal obligations.

4. How matching works

When you save roles or specializations, or when someone posts an opportunity, Parly converts those specializations into numeric vectors on our servers and stores them with the role or the post. Matching then:

  • keeps only members whose role is an exact match for a role the poster is seeking;
  • compares the stored vectors (cosine similarity) and keeps overlaps above a set threshold;
  • for in-person posts, keeps only members whose travel radius around their home ZIP includes the post’s ZIP;
  • for Remote posts, keeps only members who have opted in to remote;
  • if the poster filtered by institution, keeps only members with that verified affiliation.

This comparison runs entirely on Parly’s servers. We do not send your roles, specializations, or opportunity text to a third-party language-model API. Editing your ZIP, radius, remote preference, roles, or affiliation updates what you see in For You and Discovery; it does not send you a new-match email — those emails are for when someone else posts.

5. How we share information

We share information only as described here. We do not sell your personal information.

a) Service providers (subprocessors)

We rely on a small number of trusted providers to run Parly, who process your information only to provide their services to us:

  • Google — sign-in and authentication;
  • Resend — sending email;
  • Railway — hosting and database storage.

b) Other members

When you post an opportunity, members who match (or who find it on Discovery) can see the opportunity, its city or Remote label, and the roles you are seeking. Your name as the poster is shown after someone chooses Interested. When you are matched to someone else’s opportunity, that poster does not see your identity — only a count of how many members opted in to view their contact details. You reveal your identity to a poster only by choosing to reach out through the contact details they provided.

c) Anonymous promotion

We may share, display, or promote opportunities and other platform content publicly — including on social media and in marketing — in a form that does not reveal your identity or contact information.

d) Legal and safety

We may disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Parly, our users, or others.

6. How matching protects your privacy

Parly is designed so that being discovered never exposes your identity to the poster. Posters see only aggregate counts of who opted in, never who matched. Your ZIP and coordinates stay on the server. Vectors used for matching are derived from specializations only — not from your name, email, or ZIP.

7. Cookies and Do Not Track

We use a single essential cookie to keep you signed in. We do not use analytics, advertising, or third-party tracking cookies. Because we do not track you across other websites, we do not respond to browser “Do Not Track” signals.

8. Data retention and deletion

We keep your information while your account is active. You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from your account menu, or by emailing us at info@goparly.com. We will delete your data within 30 days of your request, except where we must retain limited information to comply with the law. Residual copies may persist in routine backups for a limited period before being overwritten.

9. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • access and update your profile information at any time in the app, including ZIP, travel radius, remote opt-in, roles, and notification frequency;
  • unsubscribe from promotional emails using the link in those emails or by contacting us;
  • request permanent deletion of your account and data (see Section 8).

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect, to request its deletion, and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights. We do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, email info@goparly.com.

10. Security

We take reasonable measures to protect your information, including serving the Service over encrypted connections (HTTPS). No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Children

Parly is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe someone under 16 has provided us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy from time to time. When we do, we’ll revise the “Effective date” above, and for material changes we’ll take reasonable steps to notify you. Your continued use of Parly after a change means you accept the updated Policy.

13. Contact
